Thought of the moment

There is a lot to learn from episodic writing. Think of TV shows with self-contained episodes, like 'Blink' from Doctor Who or 'Skin' from Supernatural.

The challenge of needing to write something interesting within time constraints can deliver something fulfilling and has lead to some iconic pieces of fiction.

When the overarching plot feels sluggish, having B plot episodes within your story can make it more engaging. It can bring a breathe of fresh air or turn up the tension. Just be careful, as not having the right balance can make the B plot feel like filler or the main plot feel unsatisfying in comparison.
